Practice management built around the tax return
Generic project trackers treat a 1040 like any other to-do. Wippy is built for how a tax firm actually works: returns move through a real status pipeline, deadlines compute themselves, e-file status is tracked to acceptance, and the board stays in sync with your professional tax software — so the work you already did in your tax program shows up here without anyone re-keying it.
Live sync with your tax software
A desktop agent keeps return statuses on your board in sync with what is actually in your professional tax software — no card-moving, no re-keying. CSV import from your tax software's client exports covers day one.
Deadline math done right
Filing and extension deadlines computed per return with weekend and federal-holiday adjustment, estimated-payment dates, and extension handling — the calendar a tax firm actually runs on.
E-file tracking to acceptance
Track every return from organizer sent through e-filed and accepted, with e-signature on engagement letters and federal e-file authorization forms included.
Time & billing built in
A 15-minute time grid, natural-language time entry, invoices generated from unbilled time, payment links, automatic reminder cadences, and autopay.
Client portal & organizers
A no-install, phone-ready portal where clients upload documents, check return status, and message you securely — with AI-classified document intake into organizer packets.
Your email, connected
Two-way Gmail and Outlook sync with drafts, folders, and AI drafting help — client conversations linked to client records.
AI on your firm's own key
Every AI feature runs on your firm's own API key. Client data travels under your provider agreement, never pooled through ours — and we never charge per AI call.
Surfaces nobody else has
Inter-firm contract labor with scoped access and contractor billing, CPE tracking for your licenses, and an entity ownership map for complex structures.
Every return type your firm files
Individuals, partnerships, corporations, trusts, nonprofits, and estate and gift returns — all first-class.
Where the price lands
Published list prices as of our July 2026 review of each vendor's public pricing page — dated on purpose, because prices move.
| Platform | Published price (July 2026) | Commitment shape |
|---|---|---|
| Wippy | Free tier; Pro $69/user/mo, or $662/user/yr billed annually | Flat — monthly billing available, no user minimum, prorated seats |
| TaxDome | Pro ~$1,000/user/yr | Billed annually, up front |
| Karbon | Business ~$1,068/user/yr (annual) | Annual pricing; 3-user minimum on Business; paid implementation |
| Canopy | $66/user/mo up to 4 users; then $150/mo base + per-module pricing | Modular — price depends on the modules you add |
| Financial Cents | Team $49/user/mo (annual) | Cheaper than Wippy — see the honest note below |
The honest note: Wippy is not the cheapest option in this market — Financial Cents' Team tier costs less, and if price is your only axis, you should look at it. Wippy's case is tax-specific depth: e-file tracking, deadline math, organizers, included e-signatures, and live sync with your professional tax software — machinery a bookkeeping-first tool does not carry. Against the platforms tax firms most often shortlist, Wippy's flat $662/user/yr undercuts comparable tiers while asking for no upfront-annual commitment, and the free tier means evaluating it costs nothing.
What we never charge for
The only thing Wippy bills is seats. Everything below is free at every tier — verified against how our billing actually works, not a marketing promise.
No per-client pricing
Unlimited client and entity records on every plan, including Free. Your client list growing is not a billing event.
No per-envelope e-signature fees
Engagement letter and federal e-file authorization signatures are included. There is no envelope counter anywhere in the product.
No client portal seat fees
Every client gets portal access for document upload, return status, and secure messaging — on the Free plan too.
No payment-processing markup
Invoices are paid through your firm's own Stripe account at Stripe's standard rates. Wippy adds nothing on top.
No onboarding or implementation fees
There is no paid setup package — because there is no six-week setup. Import your client list and start working.
No exit fee, no data hostage
A full export of your firm's data is built into the product on every tier. If Wippy stops earning your business, your data leaves with you.
Your AI runs on your key — not through ours
Every AI feature in Wippy runs on your firm's own API key (bring your own key). Your client documents and questions travel directly to the AI provider under youragreement with them — never pooled through a Wippy-owned account — and we never charge per AI call. When a client asks where their data goes, you can name the exact provider, because you chose it and you hold the agreement. Of the platforms we reviewed in July 2026, none offers this: their AI routes through the vendor's own provider accounts.
You also see the real cost directly: the AI bill arrives from your provider, not marked up inside a subscription. In our July 2026 modeling at current entry-level model prices, a typical small firm's monthly provider bill lands in the single digits of dollars.
On security, honesty first: Wippy does not yet hold a SOC 2 attestation. What it does have, on every plan: AES-256 encryption of sensitive fields and files at rest, TLS in transit, two-factor authentication, virus scanning on every upload, and an append-only audit trail.
Built by a CPA who runs his own firm on it
Wippy is built by Sam Richison, a practicing CPA. He built it because the practice-management tools he evaluated either wanted a year's payment up front, needed weeks of setup before they earned anything, or treated tax work as just another project template. He runs his own practice on Wippy every working day — the time grid he bills from, the return board he checks each morning, and the deadline calendar he trusts during filing season are the same ones you get.
That cuts both ways, and we would rather say so than have you discover it: Wippy is a small vendor. You will not get a sales team or an account manager. You will get software maintained by the person who depends on it during busy season, straightforward answers, and a full data export on every tier so that staying is always a choice — never a trap.
Run your next season on Wippy
Wippy is in private beta. Request an invite and we'll email you when a spot opens — no credit card, no sales call, and a free tier waiting on the other side.
